Quality by Design (QbD) is a four week online course that provides a unique opportunity for SUNY faculty and staff to improve courses through a framework for evaluating the effectiveness of seated, online or hybrid courses. QbD focuses on four major topics that are a key component of any quality designed course, including:
- Learner Support
- Content Presentation & Accessibility
- Interaction & Collaboration
- Evaluation & Assessment
Participants will have multiple opportunities to reflect upon how they would integrate these ideas into their own courses while engaging in discussions with experts and peers. Optional discussions and activities have been designed to help learners apply newly acquired knowledge into their own course design efforts.
While this course will be offered using the Blackboard LMS, the materials and concepts covered in the course are LMS -agnostic, meaning that they can be applied and implemented using a wide range of learning technologies that are not Blackboard dependent. This course focuses upon pedagogy, not technology skills acquisition. For more information
Quality by Design is funded through a SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology Grant (IITG). The course, in its complete form, and portions thereof, is licensed through Creative Commons and will be provided as an OER, widely available for use and modification.
This collaborative project was developed through a partnership among the University at Buffalo, Binghamton University, Empire State College, Open SUNY COTE, and SUNY Center for Professional Development. This cohort is offered as a collaboration of the following SUNY campuses; University at Buffalo, Canton, Maritime, and Niagara County Community College.
