7 Things You Should Know About MOOC’s

I thought this document from the Educause “7 Things You Should Know About” Teaching and Learning Series would be helpful to those of you trying to figure out what exactly a MOOC is and the implications they have for teaching and learning.  There are many types of Massively Open Online Courses (MOOC’s) so I thing this document from the Educause Learning Initiative would help shed some light on the topic. Please keep in mind that MOOC’s are offered on many different platforms, use a variety of instructional strategies to engage their participants, and offer options for credentialing.  It is up to all of us educators to figure out how they can best serve our students or be used for prior learning credit or credit for course work at our own institutions.  This is a “hot” topic and one that NCCC will be discussing in a MOOC learning community this academic year.
